Introducing The Creek District Sidewalk Mosaic Program!
The Creek District is working with the City of Stuart to bring new mosaic artwork to the sidewalks of the district. We are beyond grateful for the community support we are receiving, to Women Supporting the Arts for funding this program, to MartinArts for donating materials, Stuart Mainstreet for hosting classes, and of course the City of Stuart.
A New Sidewalk Mosaic will be Unveiled on Saturday April 6th!
Please join us at the Roasted Record on April 6th at 2pm to celebrate this wonderful work of art by Maria Campbell.
Enjoy refreshments, meet the artist and view the newest addition to the Mosaic Program's series of installed mosaics!
The artist, Maria Campbell:
"What inspired me was the fact that ART is imbedded in StuART. This is being recognized now by community efforts to develop and enhance the Arts. The Creek District is a great example of this.
I've incorporated some historical reference to the early 1900's with the swirling sky background which can accentuated by the laying of mosaic tile, reflective of art deco at the time Stuart was developing.
The seagull represents our environment of the sea, open air, landscape, all inspiration for artists. The hibiscus and butterfly represent the beauty of our natural setting, as well."
Our 5th Mosaic: The Fisherman, by Erikia Figueroa
Thank you Stuart Art Supply for letting us party in the Artist Nook Studio and to Hani Honey for providing refreshments for the unveiling celebration which was held in May!
"My inspiration is the fishermen, the blue of the sea and the fish."
Erika is from Columbia and now lives in Port Saint Lucie. She has been creating mosaic art for the past ten years. It began as a form of art therapy to heal from a complicated time in her life.
"The mosaic is like life, you are assembling them from pieces of experiences. Each work fills my life with wonder, love, gratitude."
She fell in love with creating mosaics, and decided to set up a workshop where she can experiment with wonderful materials and techniques to create unique works of art. She also likes to paint and sometimes combines mosaic and and painting techniques. What she likes most about being an atist is the freedom to create and express herself, the ability to share her knowledge and her experience of the world with other people through her art.

Artist: Carol Schiff | Location: 870 S Colorado Ave
Carol Schiff loves to paint and has sold paintings all over the world. She started late in life and fell in love with oil paints.
Sometimes she uses brushes, other times palette knives, to create richly textured works that range from impressionist to abstract.

Artist: Diane Concepcion | Location: 555 S Colorado Ave
Diane Concepcion (an award winning artist) has been teaching mosaics in Martin and St. Lucie Counties for years. Her passion (obsession?!) for glass, tile, and the many styles of mosaic is epic. Diane has taught these skills to hundreds of students in one-on-one and in group settings. She will happily do commissioned mosaics.
She will be leading the workshops for the Creek Mosaic Program, and is the perfect person to guide people through the creation of a Creek District Sidewalk Mosaic!
Diane is pictured here with her wonderful artwork, the first mosaic installed as part of our program in January 2022.

2/26/2022 Installed!
Artist: Corina Pelloni | Location: 120 MLK Jr Blvd
Corina Pelloni’s art ranges from two dimensional paintings to three dimensional sculpture. Her favorite medium is ‘all of them!’ Her forays into new media are fueled by a commitment to life-long learning and a perception of problems as puzzles to be solved.
She also enjoys teaching and is overjoyed to be offering mosaic workshops in her studio, missingArt.space at 901hub, Stuart. Corina also serves on The Creek District Advisory Board.
This mosaic (above) is the second to decorate a sidewalk in the District and was unveiled on February 26th at 3pm.

How Does it Work?
Enter the Design Contest for the next sidewalk mosaic:
It just needs to be a concept. It can be a photo or a painting or a rough sketch.
Entries cost $25. Your entry fee helps fund the program and support The Creek District.
If you’re selected as a finalist:
Congratulations!
The public will select their favorite from three finalists by survey. Feel free to campaign and promote your design.
If your design gets the most votes, you win! That means you’ll be making a mosaic!
It’s okay if you’ve never done that before, because you’ll be creating it in the studio with Diane Concepcion and Corina Pelloni.
Expect to spend $200-$400 on studio time. (Scholarships are available for those that need help!)
Once your mosaic artwork is installed, you’ll be awarded $650, and we’ll throw you a party!
Your art will be a permanent part of the public right-of-way, and pedestrians will see it every day!
Of course, new public art requires an unveiling ceremony, so The Creek District will plan a celebration in your honor at an establishment near the new mosaic.
Let’s Get Started!
The next contest will open soon! First, please make sure you read the contest terms and conditions.
This is very important!
Thank you!
Women Supporting the Arts generously awarded financial support which will serve as start-up funding for this program. MartinArts donated a half ton of beautiful glass tile. The City of Stuart is making this addition of new public art possible. Thank you, as well, to the people and businesses of The Creek District who have expressed their enthusiasm and support of this program.
